Dr. Ira Nelken, an educational consultant, has been working with and displaying watercolors, pastels, charcoal and pen & ink renderings for the past thirty plus years.
his style incorporates landscape realism with a touch of Japanese stylism. His sense of the fullness, values and contrasts of colors and the subtleness of color in the watercolor and pastel media highlight his work.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he has lived in northern California for most of the past forty years. Spending the first sixteen years of his life in a multi-ethnic concrete jungle; attending universities in rural upstate New York and central New jersey as well as along the west coast; Teaching in the California coast range and the Sacramento river valley of northern California; and living the past twenty plus years in the San Francisco bay area have given him a deep appreciation of nature, the simplicity of the ways of nature, and its stark contrast to urman life.
Ira Nelken serves as Treasurer and is a long time Board Member of Pinole Artisans.
