The Holiday Show will run from November 27th until December 24th. People who have shown in the gallery 2 times during the regular year will have a secured spot in the show if they decide to participate. There will be additional table space that will be shared by those who need extra space for holiday and 3D items.
Those who have not shown in the gallery twice during the year can show but it will be by availability of space. Those with one show during the regular year have priority over those with no shows.
The fee for the Holiday Show is the same as last year ($80). If you have not met the requirements of showing twice during the regular year, your fee will be ($130) plus an additional $50 fee for each show missed during the regular year. Thus, one show missed will be ($180) or two shows missed will be ($230).
Sales in the gallery have been fairly good and we hope this is a sign that the holiday show will do well.
We will be open 7 days a week for the holiday show & the hours will be:
November 27th - December 13th 11-5
December 14th - December 23rd 11-8
December 24th 11-3
We will be setting up for the holiday show during the week of thanksgiving. The gallery will be closed after December 24th until the middle of January for vacation and for touch-up and repairs to the the walls and displays.
Reminder that membership dues are coming up in January.

The show “Flora & Fauna” has ended. Our show will be called “Windows of Freedom & Expression” the current show featuring guest artist Carol Rose. She does fabulous mixed media works in paint and glass. This show runs May 22nd until July 21st.
The show after this will be “Families”. We are hoping to have our regular exhibitors share works of their family (children, grandchildren, sister, mom, husband…..). We are making an exception to the rule that states “everything shown must be for sale”. If they want it to be for sale, it can be, but those sales will be included in the hosting member’s check and they would be responsible for forwarding that money.
Also during that time our guest artists will be “the members of Penny Bledsoe’s watercolor classes”. We encourage everyone who has taken a class with Penny to show their work. It needs to be framed properly for gallery exhibit (talk to Penny or Ira for that info). This gives people a chance to show who normally do not exhibit, with no cost to them (minus 20% for pieces sold) and without sitting in the gallery. The option to sell the their work will be up to the individual artist. This is a good way to showcase the classes we teach in the gallery.

The gallery show "From the Top" is up and running. We are excited to have and Patrice Stone back in the gallery as our feature guest artist. We have already seen some sales early on. We have a neon sign for the front window being made and we are hoping that this will give us more visibility. We also have installed more lights in the jewelry cases. This show will run from September 19th thru November 10th. Sign up for the new shows is always at the monthly Friday meeting the month the show begins. Our next show will be our "Holiday Show" November 14th - January 8th . To be in the Holiday show you need 2 previous shows in the gallery during the year. If there is still space available, those with one show in will get preference over those with no gallery shows. There is a list for those wanting to show in the gallery so we have an early idea of those wanting to participate.
September 2017
The gallery has been doing fairly well. People, Pets and Places is nearly over. Thank you to Gabriela Nunez for being our guest artist. The silent Auction was held in the gallery and was a success. The following show will be "From the Top" and will feature guest artist Patrice Stone. Take in art for that show will be September 11th and the show will run from September 19th thru November 11th. Sign up for the new shows is always at the monthly Friday meeting the month the show begins.

Sky's the Limit gallery show is up and running until May 22nd. The next show sign up day will be at the May 5th general meeting and take-in art day will be the 15th of May. That show will be two months from May 23rd til the middle of July.
I am currently taking off 2 months from the gallery and will return before the start of the next show.

Things are going well in the gallery. We are still recovering from the holidays. Sales were down slightly from previous years which may be related to the economy and people shopping more online these days. Putting the holiday show into the existing gallery, the way it is set up, was a challenge and I'd like to thank everyone who participated for being accommodating. We were able to add 10 additional 6' tables during the holiday show. Now that the Jan-March show "A New Dawn" has started we are back to a less cluttered feel and things are back to normal. The following show will begin in mid March and will be titled "Sky's the Limit". Sign-up for that show will be on the night of the March general meeting.

Things are going well in the gallery. Sales are still steady and we are looking forward to the holiday show. Sign up for the holiday show will be at the next meeting Friday November 4th. Take in art for the show will be Monday November 14th. The show will run from November 22nd till January 15th. We will be open on some Mondays and extended hours on some weekends and the days right before Christmas. Can't wait to see you in the gallery. The new show "Elements and Layers" is installed and we have 3 new members showing for the first time. Susan Brinkley, Raven Iacono and Barbara Rockhold. Come see their work and the other artists. We have already sold 5 pieces off the wall the opening week of this show, along with prints and lots of jewelry. We continue to have art classes in the gallery. Jim Ott is teaching a beginning color pencil class on Mondays in October and Penny Bledsoe will be teaching a watercolor workshop on the 29th of October.

The gallery is doing well. Paintings are selling of the wall as well as other items. We are still seeing more foot traffic and sales than in our old location on Pear Street. But, we are hoping for even better sales as we near the holidays. Teresa Arnold will be our featured artist this month in the gallery. The next show will be "Elements and Layers" and will be running mid September through mid November, the week before Thanksgiving. Sign up sheet for the next show will be at the meeting on the first Friday of September. After that it will be in the gallery till the 8th. Hanging fees went up to $50 last show to offset the cost of running a gallery. Then we will start our holiday show. Holiday show will be $100 and will open the week of thanksgiving and also runs for 2 months, as opposed to only 23 days last year. The overall look of the gallery will not change during the holiday season. We may add additional tables for holiday items and things not normally shown in the gallery at present. I am excited about the interest shown by new artists and I am looking forward to showing them in the up coming shows.

The gallery's new show "Urban vs Rural" is up and running and looks great. Traffic at the gallery is still much better than we have had our location on Pear St. and sales are better as well. We are planning an artist reception night on the 26th of Aug., so come celebrate the new show and meet the artists. Our next featured guest artist and guest speaker for August will be Pam McCauley. She is a painter and will be doing a watercolor demo at the general meeting Aug. 5th. Her work will also be up in the gallery on Fitzgerald the entire month of August. Looking forward to seeing you at the gallery.

The gallery show "Movement and Growth" will be ending on July 17th and our next show "Urban vs Rural will be starting on the 19th of July. We have seen a big increase in numbers of people coming into the gallery and they love the look of the new space. The grand opening night on June 17th was a big success. We had 75 people in the gallery at one time and we probably had 150 total throughout the evening. Virgil Rhodius on the cello was great and a perfect accompaniment to a wonderful evening. Everyone enjoyed the food and drinks the artisan members provided for the event. We are hoping to do a reception night for each show as it went so well. Thanks to all those involved in making the event happen and to our featured guest artist for all the people she invited and came to see her photography. Her photography will be up till the end of June. Our featured guest artist for July will be Pablo J Victoria an artist and art educator from the Philippines. If you would like to display in our next gallery show the signup sheet will be at the next gallery meeting on July 1st and then it will be available at the gallery until we fill the show. Take-in art day will be Monday, July 11th.

The gallery is up and running. I think it looks great. I hope everyone enjoys it. I've been working hard getting it to the condition it is in currently. There are many more stresses starting a gallery from the ground up than just managing. I find it difficult to do, at this point. I will be reassessing my position as gallery manager on July 1st to determine whether or not I will continue on as manager or give notice.

Things are coming along nicely at the new gallery. We were able to move everything out of storage on the 20th of April. The space has been painted and jewelry cases are in place. Special thanks to everyone who helped and offered to help with the move, setting up and cleaning, you know who you are and you are very appreciated. There is definitely a lot of work and preparation to be done but we are still scheduled to open on the 13th of May.
The first show "Movement and Growth" will run from May 13th to July 14th. This should give everyone ample time to sign up for the show. I hope everyone is ready to jump back in and start showing and if you haven't shown in the gallery in the past please consider it. This new location has been good for our holiday shows and gets much more foot traffic than downtown. "Movement and Growth" is a title to reflect our new beginnings. I also hope to see art showing movement like trees, grass blowing in the wind, windmills, merry-go-rounds or maybe a ship on the water. This time of year is also blooming with new foliage and new birth. Springing bud and leaves as well as Baby animals make wonderful images for artwork.
We are continuing our open studio classes on Fridays 10am-1pm, but we have moved back to the gallery from Joan's house. Thanks to her for hosting our group while we had no gallery space.
My cell phone service is poor at the new gallery, so it would be easiest to reach me on the gallery phone which has already been installed. It's the same number as the old location (510)724-2008.
Thanks,

Yahoo, we have a contract and it goes into effect April 1st, 2016. Finally after months of trying we will have a home again for our Gallery at Suite 1360 on Fitzgerald Dr. at the Pinole Shopping Center by Target. Between the Avenue and Togos . Hopefully we will be able to stay there for a long time.
When we finally are able to get the key and start painting and setting up I will have a better idea as to when the next gallery show will actually start. I'm shooting for the second week in May. This should give us time to advertise and give artists enough time to sign up and get artwork together.

We still have no physical location for a gallery secured yet. We are in negotiations for a contract in Pinole at the shopping center near Target. If the deal goes through Ira Nelken and I (Eric Carlstrom) will be acting as co-managers of the gallery. We will keep updating the website and bringing new information to the meetings.

"IMAGINE" continues, and we are still on hold as to when we are setting up a new Show. Negotiations are in progress for when and where for both our HOLIDAY and PERMANENT SHOWS. All participants in the current Show will be or have been contacted by me, assessing their willingness to hang loose and continue with the current Show even beyond the ending date of September 9. If personal obligations make this difficult for you please let me know as soon as possible, so we can make appropriate plans. We are and plan to remain PINOLE ARTISANS!

"IMAGINE" was installed on July 16, and is a beautiful Show. It is our first Show to give Special Recognition to one of our Artists. We have a committee now who will choose an artist for each new Show for this Honor. This Show the Honor goes to our Founder Vickie Resso.
Many people worked together to put this Show together: Eric Carlstrom updated the web site and printed all the wall labels, Heidi Schnabel sorted the card rack and helped with hanging, Diane Williams and Jean Fisk decorated and distributed all the jewelry into the cases, Patrice Stone helped with hanging and labeling, Penny Bledsoe put up all the special labels for Vickie's paintings, Semion Mirkin and Dave Earls made our classroom walls look "professional" and Don and I tried to fill in the gaps.
The Reception for this Show on Saturday the 18th, was planned by Penny's Committee (Patrice Stone Sharon Miller, Tanya Joyce) and volunteers ( Joyce Yamada, Jim Ott, Diane Williams, Barbara George). It was a great success! Scores of people attended and sales were brisk. The refreshments were artistically done and delicious.
My sincere thanks to all who helped to give this Show a grand send off!

ART CENTER NEWS: "DRAMA WITH COLOR AND FORM" was installed on May 14 with 19 Pinole Artisans participating. I am truly grateful for the help of Jim Ott, Dave Earls, Diane Williams, Jean Fisk, and my wounded husband Don, who helped to put the Show together and hang it so it looks great! I've been running a bit sleep deprived lately with all the "home restoration" projects and medical appointments, but life is now settling down to a low roar, so I hope to soon resume my usual "retirement" schedule and art activities.
Just a few reminders about Gallery Procedures that would make our operations smoother:
1. The key to the Art Center must be returned at the end of every day! Not everyone has their own key, but everyone who participates in the Show needs a key to open the shop in the morning. Directions for key management are written in the binder, please follow them.
2. Calling the "next day's participants" is a must! We all forget things and this reminder prevents closing the shop because of lack of personnel.
3. The two people who are sitting together need each others phone numbers so they can figure out who will pick up the key.
4. The cash box needs to be counted each shift! Doing this allows mistakes to be found on a daily basis, and provides an opportunity to assess the need for available change.
Thank you for your participation and attention to these details!

"SPRINGING FORWARD" continues and is a colorful, fun Show. I am grateful for all the participation as always, but especially for this Show because of Don's accident, resulting in a broken right wrist and smaller fractures in his left hand. We have at least three more weeks in the cast and physical therapy after that before recovery is complete.
May 14 we will install 'DRAMA WITH COLOR AND FORM'. This Show will run until July 9. Please call me at 510-758-2935 to let me know if you can participate. Take-in Day is Tuesday, May 12 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. See you then!

"SPRINGING FORWARD" was installed on March 12, and will be in place until May 14. We have three new participants in this Show, so come in and see their art and give them a verbal welcome. It is a well displayed Show and pleasing to look at. Visitor volume is decidedly down so remind your friends and neighbors to come in for a visit. There are a few small posters available to hand out so please take some and give them out. "Art for a New Day" was installed on February 12 and is a great display of local, creative art. Being closed for such a long span in January, however, has had an impact on customer flow. Remind your friends and neighbors to come in for a look! We will be installing our second show on March 12th.
"Spring Forward" will run until May 14th.
We are resuming advertising in The Marketplace beginning with the month of April. We have verbal communication from John that if we get it in our time they will print it! Thanks to all the people who called them and complained that they were not publishing our articles. This is one task that could be easily done by someone else!! Think about it and let me know if you are willing to learn and do.
Remember, 2015 will be my last year as Art Center Manager. I am willing to train and help anyone willing to take on this responsibility. Please call me if there is any possibility you would be willing to take this on. 510-758-2935

After a long break Pinole Art Center is back in business! New carpets have been installed, dry rot in the floor has been repaired, the walls have been patched and painted, and the jewelry cases have been repaired. We are ready for business! This is a New Year, and my aim is to make it one that shines with creativity and dedication to bringing Art to our community. On Tuesday, February 10, we will take in new Art for "ART FOR A NEW DAY". We will set up this new Show on Thursday, February 12. If there is anyone reading this who would like to be in this first Show of the year but you have not received paperwork from me please call me immediately at 510-758-2935. This Show is four weeks long, all the other shows this year will be six weeks long.
Many thanks to Penny Bledsoe, Jim Ott, Dave Earls, Eric Carlstrom, Ira Nelken, and my beloved Don for their considerable efforts in bringing this reconstruction project to completion. "CELEBRATE LIFE", our new Show at the Art Center is drawing an increased number of visitors! We have new participants and they have added new jewelry and hand-made soaps. Our plein air painters also have new works displayed for viewing. The "Open Studios" event every Friday is quite popular. Participants in this workshop enjoy receiving and giving valuable information to each other as they work on their own projects. You are invited to come into the Center for a visit and find many reasonably priced items for gifts or for your own pleasure. We are located at 2221 Pear Street in Pinole, next to City Hall. Phone 510-724-2008.

June, 2014
"HONOR TO MOM", our current Show at the Pinole Art Center, will give way to "CELEBRATE LIFE" on June 19. Sales at Pinole Art Center Gallery continue to be slow but we are getting more visitors coming in just to see what we are about. Fifteen to twenty Pinole Artisans continue to support our efforts to bring art to our community, allowing us to keep our doors open four to five days a week. Vacation time is coming and some of these will need to skip a Show, so if you've been considering exhibiting your Artwork now would be a good time to commit to joining the exhibitors. Art Take-In Day for "CELEBRATE LIFE" will be Tuesday, June 17. If you wish to participate in this Show call Joan Landis at 510-758-2935.
Our Thanks this month go to Dave Earls for repairing our ailing sign! It now has wheels, moves with ease and is much more stable at it stands on the corner directing people to our Art Center. Dave we are in your debt!

May, 2014
On May 1 we will install "HONOR TO MOM" at the Art Center. This show will be in place until June 19. Our Art Center is looking good, and more visitors are coming in and checking us out. Sales, however, are still slow, but tax month is not a good time to assess the economy! Financially we are OK for now but Artisan participation is still slowing! We need Artisans showing their work to keep our doors open! I appreciate the comments from several members about possible changes to our operations, but the bottom line still remains that we need four bodies per day to keep our doors open! To be open 5 days per week we need 20 artists participating at 2.5 hours per week. If participants are less we have to reduce the number of days open. It is not good for business, and I do not like to do it, but it is the only way I can see to deal with this issue.

April, 2014
I usually try to be positive and uplifting in my Newsletter comments, and I stilll feel positive about the Art Center and our new Show, "SPRING RETURNS". It looks great! Getting this Show installed, however, has forced me to deal with several difficult issues. Jim Ott, Eric Carlstrom and I were there to do the hanging, and Judy Cressa and Bill Lake came later to open the Gallery and helped with the Jewelry cases and phone calls to artists to pick up their art. At least four more people were needed! For a Show to be open 5 days a week 20 participants are needed - this Show has 17. I have to question whether to keep the Shows going on a full time basis is what the membership wants. Other Galleries in the area require participants to help with Show activities. I have preferred a less rigid approach, but it doesn't seem to be working. I need comments and input from the membership on how we can make it work better. Should we continue being open full time?Should the Shows just be at Special Times? Shorter? Longer but less often? How to fairly covered required activities? Please write your comments (signed or not, your choice) and put them in a sealed envelop in the Art Center's Manager Box. I will read them and discuss them with your Board. Thank you very much for your help!

March, 2014
Our Grand Opening Event on February 22nd was a rousing success! Eighty-six to ninety persons packed into our Art Center, enjoyed refreshments and wine provided by our members, participated in our Games, made purchases and told us they were glad we are there. Every Artisan who participated in this event has my personal thanks!! It was a pleasure to have Tim Banuelos, Our Mayor, and Gloria Perez representing the Chamber of Commerce, to help us with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, which opened this event. They left us with the pieces of the Blue Ribbon which every one of our visitors to our Art Center signed! The ribbon is hanging in the Center for all to see.
Our current Show, "A BRIGHT NEW DAY" runs until March 20, when it will be replaced by "RETURN OF SPRING". Please come in and enjoy our Show.
